DSSA is a National Sports Organization dedicated to transforming the lives of athletes with Down syndrome who want to develop and compete in sports. "...inspiring athletes with Down syndrome..."
DSSA swimmers mixed with and held their own among US Paralympic superstars - recently returned from their medal successes in the 2022 Para Swimming World Championships in Madeira, Portugal. Our swimmers had little time to adjust to the 6,000 feet altitude of Colorado Springs but nevertheless produced some strong performances during the long course event held annually at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center honoring the memory of Jimi Flowers. Well done Caitlin, Carmen (making her first appearance for DSSA!), Chase and Maggie.
Massive thanks to Coach Ashley and his fantastic team at CP Soccer for their support for our first soccer camp in upstate New York. Well done to our Head Coach Joslynn, her coaching team and supporting staff for managing a fantastic few days and most of all, well done to our players who all made great progress during the camp mastering the basics of futsal. Thanks too go to Golden Goal for their great facility and who could forget the fabulous Irish CP soccer team who gave us our first taste of international competition! France (2023) and Turkey (2024), here we come!
Three DSSA triathletes took part as a relay team in the Belleplain Super Sprint Triathlon June 18th, 2022. Led by USAT Coach Monica, our three triathletes - Caitlin, Logan and Philip - assisted by their guides Cheryl, David & Mark combined to swim 200 yards, cycle 9 miles and run 1 mile in what was a fantastic effort by the team. Thank you to DQ events, legendary triathlete Midge Kerr who provided last minute coaching tips and our sponsors Energy Lab Apparel as well as Glisten Get Fit Outside.
The Virtus OA Games (Oceania/Asia) are taking place in Brisbane, Australia November 5-12. With the cancellation of the Americas regional games the organizers have invited the USA to their event.
